Students work
with the teacher to brainstorm colors.
The teacher will write the
colors on the board.
The students work in groups.
Place students in groups of
4 or 5. Each group gets the following supplies:
- red, yellow, and blue
artificial colors (colors separately for
group)
- spoon each
student
- frosting
pre-prepared (white)
- cup cakes (each
students)
- paper plate for each
student
- cloth for
cleaning tables
- napkins
* Tell students that these
are the three primary colors and that all other colors are made from these
three colors. Tell the students how to use the spoon and frosting. Allow the students to
experiment with mixing the three colors. They can only mix two colors at a
time to start with. Ask questions about what is happening to the colors as
the students are experimenting.
*Show students the
three primary colors: red, yellow, blue. Paint a blot of each primary
color and write the color word under each. Proceed to show students how
the 3 primary colors can be mixed to make the secondary colors.
* Integrates
parents to bake the cup cakes and bring to the class.
